About Alva

ALVA was founded to meet the growing global energy demand with renewable technologies. We develop electric generators for the production of clean energy and electric motors to convert this energy to motion. Believing that technological advancements and prosperity can in fact be both green and sustainable, we envision a world run solely on renewable, electric energy.

Founded in 2016, ALVA has grown to almost fourty people with reliable funding and an ingenious and patented production technology with proven superiority over conventional alternatives. FiberPrinting enables the production of low-weight, high-efficiency electric motors and generators for a wide range of applications, reflecting our true purpose. We do not just enhance electric motors and generators. We enhance electric cars, ships and airplanes, UAVs, medical equipment, robots, satellites and so much more. We enhance the world.

We are currently engaged in several international long-term projects and are now commercializing our products in the rapidly growing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) market. We are therefore expanding our team to include several new positions, including a Testing Engineer role.

About the position

We are searching for a talented Engineer with the skills needed to test and analyse electric motor products. You will be a part of the Product Engineering team that develops best-in-class electric machines for exciting applications such as aerial and underwater drones. The position will entail a diverse mix of tasks revolving around the testing and validation of our drone propulsion systems, you will work closely both with design engineers and other testing engineers to realise the team’s goal of creating the most robust and reliable propulsion systems in the world.

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in the testing and data logging of electric machines and possess a good working knowledge of how electric machines work and how they are controlled.

This role is ideally suited to an Electrical or Mechatronics Engineer who has a strong interest in all aspects of testing and validation of electric machines and preferably enjoys the hands-on aspects of setting up and commissioning test rigs to undertake the defined tests and collect the required data.

Your responsibilities:

  • Design, commission, and operate test rigs intended to stress test drone propulsion systems
  • Prepare motors for testing including the calibration and accuracy checking of sensors and instrumentation
  • Write code to semi-automate test cycles and manage data logging
  • Work with design engineers to understand the test aims and assist in writing procedures to standardise and document test methodologies
  • Troubleshoot and fault find both test instrumentation and electric machines
  • Post process data and present concise testing reports to design engineers

Key attributes:

  • Relevant engineering degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.)
  • Some experience with creating electrical circuits
  • Basic mechanical competency to enable you to set-up and commission test rigs independently

Preferred attributes:

  • Theoretical understanding of electric machines
  • Experience with using power analysers to characterise the electrical parameters of a motor
  • Able to use code (Typically python or C#) to automate testing and data logging
